Where should I have my pond?

We are planning to create a garden pond. There is an existing walled area on the sunny side of the garden which used to house a pond (we asked the former owners to remove it because we had small children and dogs). Now the kids are older, we would like to reinstate the pond but my husband thinks that the sunny side of the garden will encourage too much algae(it can be very dry and hot in the summer as it gets the sun from about 10am to 7pm). I haven't a clue, but I do know that I don't fancy moving it after we have set it up if he is right. Can anyone help?
